Looking after our mental health - some useful contacts

Dear Members

We all know that sport/exercise and having a chat with friends/teammates works wonders for our mental health as well as our physical health.

However, there are times when life is tough and our mental health takes a battering. If you or someone you care about needs a little more support or someone to talk to away from family and friends, there are some brilliant organisations in Kent offering a range of free services.

Mid January (allegedly the worst time of the year for low mood for many of us) might be an appropriate time to share some contacts, as several services have launched new programmes and online events for 2024:

East Kent Mind offer a range of mental health and wellbeing services, including online sessions on coping with anxiety, low mood and depression, anger management, money management, nutrition, and positivity. They can offer one-to-one support, and have some sessions just for men.

You can call: 01843 319 193 or email: info@eastkentmind.org.uk

Here’s their Jan- March programme:

Live Well Kent provide free mental health support for adults. You can call them on 0800 567 7699 or make contact through their website:

Action for Happiness is a national organisation running courses for people in Kent.

Their ‘Happiness Habits’ is a science-based course for people who want to learn how to tune in to what really matters in life, live happily and spread happiness to those around them.

The Campaign against Living Miserably also has a helpline (0800 58 58 58) if you are struggling or worried about someone, and a whole range of resources and tips online:

Macmillan Cancer Support offers telephone/text/online support for anyone going through cancer or supporting someone with cancer. They recognise that cancer can have an enormous impact on mental health, offer advice, information and a listening ear, and can introduce you to local support groups and services: 0808 808 00 00

All our Club Safeguarding Officers (me, Kirsty Potter for cricket and Baz Hodson for squash) have a range of resources and contacts we can share with you, and always welcome a request for info, or a call for a chat.

With very best wishes
