FHDC Community Update

A message from Ms Alex Sansom Communities Officer FHDC
Hi everyone
A few things to update you on

Age UK Hythe & Lyminge is calling for anyone who can volunteer a few hours to support the Vaccination Centre at Oaklands to put their name on the Rota . You don’t need to be one of their regular volunteers.
If you are able to give any time please contact them on 01303 269602.

CROP (Citizens Rights for Older People) are a Volunteer led organisation, who visit people at home, to help and support them with issues with which they may be struggling. Such as access to information they need, to be able to obtain their rights and entitlements. An Advocate can also speak on their behalf if they feel they are not being listened to, or do not know which way to turn, or are unsure or worried – CROP can be their voice. If you know of anyone that needs this support, please refer them. CROP are looking for volunteers in the local area too so if you would like to help and can spare some time, please get in touch with them. Ring Sharon 01622 851200

Kent Sporting Memories run a virtual club on Fridays which is a fun session, open to everyone with an interest in Sport including those living with dementia. They are also looking for volunteers to help run the sessions. Contact Michael on 07423 284045 or michael@thesmf.co.uk for more information.

Kent Sport are running a new initiative under the Everyday Active Programme, called the Everyday Active Challenge kicking off on 1st May. The challenge is to walk every day in May and to log your activity. You can find more details about the Challenge & how to sign up via this link.
For anyone looking for funding, please make a diary note that the next Folkestone & Hythe District Council ‘Meet the Funders‘ event will be on 16th September 2021. Last year we had a virtual event but this year we are hoping that we will be able to hold a face to face event again at Three Hills Sports Park. Look out for our invitation nearer the time.

If you have any comments on the Place Plan for Folkestone, there is an online feedback form open until Sunday 9 May. https://www.folkestone-hythe.gov.uk/folkestoneplaceplan . The survey refers to specific sections of the Place Plan so it is best to read that first before completing the survey.

And Finally… there is an invitation to the launch of the White Cliffs Community Rail Partnership. The partnership covers all the stations from Westenhanger to Sandwich. The high level aim of the CRP is to encourage greater use of rail services through increased participation of local communities in their rail line and by delivering a range of activities at and surrounding their station to provide economic, social and environmental benefits to the region’s residents and visitors. There is no need to book - just join us at the MS Teams event on 20th May at 2pm at dover.gov.uk/whitecliffscrp to find out more about the CRP.

Hope to see you there. Alex
