Thank you from Tom

4 weeks ago today I had arranged to play squash with Gary. It was his birthday, and I doubt if its one he will forget it in a hurry.
After the first game on my way to leave the court and get a drink, I collapsed.

Gary phoned 999 and followed their instructions. Helped by Kayvan, who was due to play Gary after me, they carried out CPR. They used the defibrillator until the ambulances and helicopter arrived with paramedics and doctor and took over the work that Gary and Kayvan had been doing.

Statistics show that if compressions are not started on a cardiac arrest patient within 2 minutes of the arrest then the patient dies and less than 5% of those people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of the hospital environment survive.

As I am writing this, I can honestly say that Gary and Kayvan saved my life. No ifs, buts or maybes and for that thank you seems way too inadequate. Beers for a long time on me.

There are many more people I will thank and probably just as many names that I have forgotten, but as far as I can remember from my conversations.
I would like to thank Ali for calling Colette to let her know that I was unwell. Liz Hollamby for collecting Colette (and Salty) and driving them to the club. Mel for delivering bits and pieces to Tom Ash and Tom for delivering to me (and getting told off for breaking the rules). To Phil H, Tobie and Steve, Tom L, Rhys, James, Glen, Rachel, Cliff and Emma, Adam, Matt, Dave H, Wilko, Neil and all the Golf Buds

Both Colette and I are humbled by the way that the club and the members have genuinely gathered round and supported us and the moral support given to Colette when I was unconscious and when she could not visit me.

Finally, I would like to apologise to Lee Divers and John Good for failing to cancel my games with them without warning. I did not have any warning myself.

Thanks again and hopefully I will see you all soon at the club for a beer or two.

Tom
