Can you give a few hours a year to support junior cricket?

Dear Club Members and Friends

Junior cricket is organised by a small group who have been volunteering for a long time, and now need some help and new enthusiasm to keep young players involved and thriving in cricket at our club. Could you volunteer a few hours to help out?

You need an interest in cricket and a commitment to inclusive junior sport, but no cricket knowledge or experience is required or assumed. Junior cricket volunteers are a friendly team who can achieve a lot for young players and families – it’s fun and rewarding! The club offers complementary membership to anyone regularly volunteering.

All of the following roles could be adapted or shared between 2 or more people, there is a handover, plenty of support to learn to use our club systems (eg Pitchero and pitch booking system) and a ‘how to’ information sheet for each of the roles.

Reply to this message, or drop a line to Rachel Gainsford and Martin Cobb at juniorcricket@hythecsc.com or call or message Rachel on 07952 671382. We’d welcome a chat with anyone interested. (It's just a chat - doesn’t mean you have to commit to anything until you want to!)

1. Saxon Shore League (SSL) Hythe Representative

Are you supportive of inclusive junior cricket and the development of young players, comfortable communicating positively with people from other clubs, and able to attend 2 evening meetings a year?

The Saxon Shore League has a small committee of club representatives to arrange the fixtures and competition rules for the junior cricket teams in the League. Joining the committee is a great opportunity to shape the future of junior cricket in our part of Kent.

Could you Represent Hythe on The SSL Committee?

  • Join the Hythe Junior Cricket WhatsApp group to pick up any issues from coaches/volunteers during the season
  • Confirm Hythe team entries annually
  • Attend 2 Hythe junior cricket meetings at the club
  • Attend 2 Saxon Shore League meetings annually (locations rotated between the SSL clubs)

2. Saxon Shore League Committee Secretary

No specific cricket knowledge is required – just a willingness to attend 2 SSL meetings a year, take and circulate minutes and follow up on any administration required.

3. Hythe Junior Cricket Administrator

Are you friendly, organised, happy to use online systems and able to volunteer a couple of hours a week (as and when suits you) during cricket season? Could you consider helping out with our junior cricket administration?

  • Manage the junior cricket email inbox, replying to enquiries from new and existing players/parents and other clubs
  • Ensure pitchero is kept up to date for junior cricket players and parents
  • Make pitch/nets bookings for junior cricket games and training
  • Ensure the junior cricket register is kept up to date, and training/match fee requests sent out
  • Ensure Hythe junior cricket contact information is kept up to date with the cricket leagues
  • Arrange the dates and take minutes at two Hythe junior cricket meetings a year (usually in Feb/March and Sept/Nov)
  • Make a note of any junior cricket income and expenses for the cricket section budget

NB This role requires a DBS check (a criminal record check), arranged by the Club.

4. Junior Cricket Shirts & Kit Organiser

Are you friendly, organised, comfortable using online systems, able to come to some Sunday morning training sessions, and occasionally love a good clear out? Could you consider looking after our junior cricket shirts and kit?

  • Keep a supply of shirts for new players and team coaches
  • Respond to enquiries from parents about shirts/kit, and accept any kit donations
  • Work with team coaches to keep the team kit bags stocked and in good condition, and review any kit needed at start and end of each season
  • Order shirts and kit from the suppliers as required (online order and delivery)
  • Make a note of all shirt/kit income and expenditure for the cricket section budget

5. Team Manager for U15s

Are you a good communicator, happy to use the Pitchero Manager App, and comfortable contacting coaches from other clubs? We have not entered an U15 league team this year, but a volunteer in this role would give our U15 players (girls and boys) the opportunity to play some friendly games.

  • Contact coaches from other clubs who have expressed an interest in an friendly game
  • Use the club booking system to find and book an available pitch/date for games
  • Use Pitchero to publish fixtures, communicate with parents/carers and confirm a team for each games
  • Use the junior cricket whatsapp group to arrange a scorer/umpire for games
  • Bring a kit bag, meet and greet players at the games

NB: This role requires a DBS check, arranged by the Club.

6. Cricket First Aider

Are you calm, friendly, already play or watch cricket at the club fairly regularly (junior or adult) and are available to attend a First Aid Training Session at the club on the morning of Saturday 11th April? We’d like one or two more people trained in First Aid to support our cricketers in the event of an accident, and keep the team First Aid kits organised. No set time commitment required (other than the initial 3 hour training session).

Please consider helping out with one or more of these roles, and/or pass on the info to anyone else you think might be interested.

Reply to this email, or drop a line to Rachel Gainsford and Martin Cobb at juniorcricket@hythecsc.com or message/call Rachel on 07952 671382. We welcome any questions or a chat with anyone interested.

Thank you! And wishing all cricket fans, supporters, players and families a great 2026 season.
