Building on the success of our junior cricket café, we are looking to appoint a manager to set up and develop a community café to offer a warm welcome and affordable menu to people playing, watching and supporting sport at our club.

You will be friendly, organised and adaptable, with great communication skills and an eye for detail. Experience in catering/hospitality and/or working with volunteers is an advantage. A commitment to our club values, ‘welcoming, sporting and inclusive’ is essential.

Job Title: The Cafe@TheGrove Manager

10 hours a week, initial 6 month contract, hourly rate £16-£18, with performance related potential to extend contract length, hours and pay. Job share applications welcome.

Job Summary:

• Establish and grow a small community cafe, initially opening on Saturday and Sunday mornings.*

• Design a simple menu and liaise with the Manager of TheBar@TheGrove to ensure appropriate stock is ordered and accounted for.

• Recruit, train, support and manage a team of volunteers to deliver excellent customer service.

• Liaise with TheBar@TheGrove Manager to ensure all staff and volunteers maintain appropriate food hygiene standards.

• Ensure HCSC policies and procedures are adhered to, and the cafe operates at all times in the spirit of HCSC values: 'welcoming' and 'inclusive'.

• Advertise and promote the cafe, particularly targeting those involved in sport, exercise and wellbeing (eg cyclists, walkers, runners, neighbouring sports clubs, care homes with wellbeing programmes )

• Manage the cafe budget, aiming for break-even after 3 months, and demonstrable profit after 6 months.

*The Manager will be responsible for ensuring café volunteers are well supported, but may not be always be required on site during café opening hours.
